Bryan Lopez, van straatjongen tot succesvolle leerling:
19 oktober 2009

Before coming to Proniño, Bryan Lopez (12 years old) wandered the streets during two years. He hated it, the hunger, the loneliness, the fear above all.  To forget the hunger pangs, he sniffed glue and sometimes the older kids gave him a bit of crack, but it never lasted long. Then suddenly Andrea (a Proniño volunteer) showed up.  She took him to the La Montaña center, this was the best change of his life.

Thanks to his effort, interest, enthusiasm and mathematics skills, Santa Elizabeth Institute admitted him as their first Proniño pupil in private school.

Are you happy to be in school?
Oh yes I am.  I can learn more like that and I want to be a good man when I’m big.  It’s very boring during the holidays because there isn’t always as much to do in the center as I would like.  But in school it’s fun.

You are now in fourth grade (equivalent group six in the Dutch school system), but we were told that you did 2nd and 3rd grade in one year?
Yes I did.  In the middle of the year the teacher told me that I could skip the rest of the grade and go to the next class.  My current teacher told me that she would like me to try 5th and 6th grade in one year in 2010.
I’m a little bit afraid because I might fail but she also told me that I can stay in 5th grade if I don’t feel up to it.

Do you have a dream?
Yes, I want to be the best soccer player of Honduras, as good as Carlos Pavón.  It’s very difficult.  Before, I wanted to be a doctor but no more.  Maybe I will be a lawyer one day if I cannot be the best soccer player.

We were told that you played in a movie last year, because you were the first Proniño child ever to go to a private school?
Yes, it was very funny. Sometimes I didn’t understand why the moviemaker wanted me to do or to say certain things.  But when I saw the movie, I was very surprised.  All of a sudden I everything I said and did made sense and was made into one real life story.

Can we see the movie?
Yes you can: it’s on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyCVrLtTVGM

And do you have a lot of friends in school?
Yes many, Luis and Antonio are my best friends.

Any girls too?
